CybExer's UK Chief Operating Officer, Daz Preuss, served as an expert advisor on The Wargame, Sky's four-part series imagining a Russian attack on the UK. Drawing on his operational experience, Daz worked with the production team to shape how the cyberattack at the heart of the scenario develops and escalates. The series premiered on Sky and NOW on 21 September.

Based on the award-winning Sky News podcast of the same name, The Wargame is part documentary, part drama. It places senior politicians, military leaders and intelligence chiefs in a sealed, COBR-style crisis room to respond to a fictional Russian attack on UK soil.

Michael Gove plays the Prime Minister, with Nicola Sturgeon as his deputy, Penny Mordaunt as Defence Secretary and Harriet Harman as Home Secretary. Rolling news bulletins, intelligence reports and unexpected interventions force the fictional Cabinet into minute-by-minute decisions as the crisis escalates. The Financial Times called the result “chillingly, awfully convincing”.

Daz's brief was the anatomy of the cyberattack, with Russia as the aggressor and the UK as the target. He helped shape the storyline and effects so the escalation matched the reality of a mature, real-world cyberattack.

Defence, government and critical infrastructure organisations use CybExer's cyber ranges and digital twins of real IT systems to rehearse attacks of the kind the series depicts. In September, that work earned CybExer the Critical National Infrastructure Award at The National Cyber Awards 2026.

Daz leads CybExer's UK operations from Dorset Innovation Park. He joined the company in 2024 after almost 27 years in defence. During that time he trained as a telecommunications systems engineer, then became a solutions architect for global operations.

He also served as technical lead for capability development and cyber training development. In that role, he delivered large-scale cyber training exercises alongside CybExer, including Army Cyber Spartan, one of the British Army's largest hands-on cyber exercises. His contribution earned him a Queen's Birthday Honours List commendation for special projects in support of national defence.

We're proud to see Daz bring that experience to The Wargame. Cyberattacks are already part of the reality organisations and governments operate in. At CybExer, we use scenarios to explore how an incident can unfold, where it could lead and what decisions may be needed – before those decisions have to be made for real.

The Wargame aired nightly from 21 to 24 September and is available to watch on Sky and NOW.
