CybExer Technologies and e-Governance Academy have been continuously supporting Ukrainian public stakeholders in enhancing their abilities and empowering their teams to respond to cyber-attacks.

A cybersecurity exercise with this mission took place in Kyiv from the 20th to the 22nd of September in 2021.

During the exercise, 50+ officials from Ukraine’s State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection (SSSCIP), Ministry of Defense and National Bank (NBU), Security Service (SBU), and Cyber Police came together to participate in the simulation to counter cyber attacks.

CybExer Technologies, together with e-Governance Academy, carried out this training session within the framework of the EU4DigitalUA project funded by the European Union.

The Deputy Head of SSSCIP, Viktor Zhora, spoke about the importance of such exercises for Ukrainian organizations:

“Such exercises provide a unique opportunity to elaborate scenarios of countering cyberattacks under conditions close to reality and ensure the aligned work of teams, as well as enhance skills to respond to cyber incidents.”

A member of the EU’s Support Group for Ukraine, Tanel Tang, also gave comments about this cybersecurity exercise:

“Joint efforts are needed to strengthen the Ukrainian cyberspace and public authorities’ awareness of cybersecurity. Ukraine’s success in digital transformation depends on secure and reliable digital tools and connectivity. Engaging the best knowledge and experts of the European Union, we help prepare Ukrainian cybersecurity experts for new challenges.”

The format of this activity was a Live-Fire Cybersecurity Exercise. Therefore, the main goal was to equip the participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to detect, prevent, and respond to potential upcoming cyber threats.

The Blue Team consisted of key Ukrainian cybersecurity experts from different state institutions. On the other hand, we had a Red Team formed by the organizers, which launched an intensive real-time attack against the Blue Team’s infrastructure.

Defending team (Blue) had to assess the situation and ensure the protection of networks and services that were under simulated cyberattack.

Finally, this cybersecurity exercise ended with a feedback session, where the leaders of key cybersecurity organizations came together to conclude this activity and talk about the importance of cooperation between the main Ukrainian organizations in the cybersecurity field.

Our team at CybExer Technologies is happy to take part in organizing such projects and share our experiences with other organizations globally.
